Tragic West End streetcar crush ends life of newsboy

Fred Beck, a Grove Hall area newsboy, tripped on Washington street and was crushed by an electric streetcar as Panished crowds gathered. Motorman Jarvis Lyon, one of Boston’s oldest operators, said he brakes and reversed, but the boy lay under the heavy frame until help arrived. Judge Sherman fined James McCauley fifty dollars and Michael Gately one hundred dollars for maintaining a gaming house. Jacob Grossman, found guilty, was fined one hundred dollars. George Prang was arrested on a similar charge and discharged.

Child Run Down By Caravan Near Leverett Street

Mary Blackmore aged 12 of 27 Leverett street was struck by a two horse caravan yesterday at 4 30 pm. The vehicle fled the scene but officers from Station 8 were alerted and the girl was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with a probable broken kneecap.

Boy 17 Falls From Second Story Window at Portland Street

Jeremiah McGuinness aged 17 fell from a second story window at Law's picture frame manufactory, 33 Portland street, at 5 pm and sustained serious injuries. He was taken to City Hospital. he resides at 2 Holden court and worked at the same factory.
