Battle at Port Arthur Drives Russian Fleet Back

Despatches from the east describe a naval battle at Port Arthur. A midnight torpedo attack preceded two assaults by Japanese cruisers and battleships driving the Russian squadron back to the harbor. The Japanese fleet then bombarded the town from nine to ten, causing heavy damage and loss of life.

Big Labor Conflict Inflames Shoe Factories Strike

In Lynn a dozen workers clashed with employers over a new price list. Factory owners of Cushman & Cushman and others posted notices barring Shoe Workers' Protective Union members if the dispute remains unsettled tonight, threatening shutdowns tomorrow. The union voted to stay out until terms are met, as extra police prepare for expected trouble.

End of the Big Merger in New York Stock Debacle

In New York on March 22 the Northern Securities plan to meet the Supreme Court ruling emerges. Threatened Fist Fight in Court Echoes Family Dispute

In Judge Lowell’s federal court yesterday a tense exchange erupted between Mrs. Hendricks’s brother and her husband Dr Hendricks as officers intervened to restore order. Mrs Hendricks suffered another fainting spell while seeking custody of her six year old son placed with the House for the Angel Guardian by his father. The judge advised the parties to seek relief elsewhere amid ongoing maneuvering and a planned Massachusetts return by Dr Hendricks despite Attorney Russell’s claim that money won’t bring him there.

Brighton child dies after bonfire accident

Catherine Needham, six, of Brighton, died at City hospital after her skirts caught fire while she faned a bonfire in front of her home at Hillside Avenue and Wilford Street. Two boys prompted the act and her mother Mrs. Michael Needham extinguished the flames.

Yale Students Robbed of $2000

In New Haven two men who looked like Yale students entered the Yale gym while teams were away. They rifled the locker room, stealing jewelry and about $2000 in cash and valuables. Police conducted an investigation but no arrests were reported at press time.

Husband Murders Wife in South End

A husband admitted to killing his wife at their home and sent a public letter explaining he was provoked. He pursued her after an evening separation, shot her four times near Chester Place and Massachusetts Avenue, then surrendered to Patrolman McHugh. The victim died at City Hospital morgue. Burnett, janitor at the local apartment, confessed and wept beside the body. McKenzie was held as a witness.

Man Dies After Morphine Poisoning On Portland Street

A man who gave the name James Porter was arrested for drunkenness on Portland Street and died at the Relief station after being found with a bottle of morphine tablets. 71 tablets remained from a 100 tablet bottle, with 29 missing implying a morphine overdose estimated at 6.125 grains.
