How Curtin Escaped Salem Jail March 22 1904

Daring escapee Jack Curtin, jailed in Salem, fled via boiler room bulkhead with a guard distracted by noise. Sheriff Johnson leads a wide manhunt with city police and surrounding towns after reports of him seen near rail lines and a freight train headed to Boston. Curtin, about 45, 5 feet 10 inches, was serving time for assault and manslaughter and is believed to have received aid from Boston-area associates.

Wire Tappers Outfit Seized in Indiana Bond Heist

New Albany Indiana police recovered the wire and 49 batteries used by suspects who tapped pools halls at French Lick and West Baden Springs. The operation extended two miles from New Albany with 1500 yards of wire and 8000 dollars taken in the theft. The wire ran from a pole to a vacant house where the instruments were hidden on the second floor.
