Reichstag ridicules Ahlwardt over alleged Frankfurt papers
Berlin March 22 At the opening of the Reichstag a large crowd heard Rector Ahlwardt claim to possess documents alleging fraudulent contracts during Bismarck's chancellorship with Hebrew financiers and state funds transferred to Hebrew speculators. The committee found no proof. Ahlwardt said more papers would come after Easter. The chamber roared with laughter as he insisted the documents weighed 200 pounds and that others were held by friends who feared search warrants. The Reichstag resolution stated the papers contained nothing to slur current or former officials. Ahlwardt protested and was censured by President Von Levetzow for remarks amid the uproar.
