Lieutenant Colonel Herbert of the 102d Field Artillery received the Silver Eagle award as fighters of the 26th Division were honored on the eve of their homeward departure.
Major Dick B. Foster, a Camp Funston court martial member, charges Secretary of War Baker with aiding conscientious objectors and I. W. W. influences. He claims pacifist networks in Abci and clever acts have blocked army construction by perverting Congress protections.
Major Foster read an address defending conscientious objectors and distinguishing true objectors from false ones. He, a former U S Army officer, stated his American citizenship and desire to inform the public about conditions surrounding induction and the role of groups like the Industrial Workers of the World.
Samuel Gompers president of the American Federation of Labor was hosted by President Wilson in Paris. Wilson praised Gompers work as the labor mission nears its Paris meetings. Gompers plans to travel to London next Wednesday for talks with the British parliamentary committee.
Lawrence dispatch reports Alex Bannart, once a baseball magnate and ally of Coxey, now a pugilistic pacifist, leading strikers planning a march on Boston. The piece notes Bannart’s controversial past with Senator Lodge and hints at a continuation on page 6.

Northeastern Department members interpret the move as sending them to divisions closer to home than the Yankee Division. The 26th division members express enthusiasm over the tidings.

United Shoe Machinery Company of Beverly agreed to recognize labor unions and allow 4200 employees to join their crafts. Ambrose A.
