Hale House Fire Kills and Traps Dozens at Butte Mine Lodging
A three story Hale House in East Broadway Butte burned after 3 am killing two men and injuring others while twenty are missing. Fire started in the basement with exits blocked by smoke and debris as workers jumped or were rescued. Rescue crews worked amid freezing air to evacuate the injured and account for the missing.
