North Cambridge Fire Destroys Four Story Brick Building

A major early morning blaze in North Cambridge left more than 50 000 in leases lost and hundreds homeless. The Henderson carriage factory was razed as four stories went to smoke before firemen from Cambridge Somerville and Medford halted the flames. Narrow escapes occurred as horses were saved and a police station was reportedly damaged. The fire, described as the largest Cambridge has seen, consumed a row of wooden tenements and caused extensive destruction to nearby facilities.

The Unique Portrait Competition At The Post

The Post awards twenty five artist proofs of its great State Engraving to the first correct identifications. Ninety percent of lists were exact, six with a single error first received. A major Cambridge blaze erupted early morning at Henderson Bros. large carriage factory on North avenue. Fire Chief Henderson ordered second and third alarms as flames spread, causing extensive damage and prompting continued coverage on the eighth page.
