Otis Reports Long Casualty List From War Department

Mob executes jail inmate in Marietta during night assault

In Marietta Georgia a mob of about 150 masked men forced entry to the jail at 1 a m seized John Bailey a Black man charged with attempted felonious assault and shot him about fifty times in the Court House yard He died later that day Bailey had been accused of assaulting Miss Amanda Snellgrave near Marietta on Thursday.

Slashed Woman Hurt as Lodger Attacks with Razor

Mrs. Alice Lannier a widow and her children were attacked by lodger Jay Bisshop who slashed her neck and arms after rebuke for foul talk. Mrs Carew tried to intervene and was cut to the bone, possibly fatal shock to the invalid. Carew overpowered the offender and Bisshop was arrested.

The Winthrop board of selectmen last night elected E. B. Funeral of Justice Dewey Held in Springfield

Simple services were held in the South Church for Justice Justin Dewey of the Superior Court. The largely attended rites were led by Rev. Dr. Philip Moxom and included prayer and scripture. Interment followed at Great Barrington.

Charles A Foster Dies: Longtime Quincy Resident Leader

Charles A Foster born August 25 1827 in South Boston studied at Harvard Law School and earned an LL B in 1853. He joined the bar in March 1856. He served at Tangier in 1844 during a bombardment and later fought at Vera Cruz in the Mexican War. He lived in Quincy since 1866 and worked in the Bos tae Customs stores, married twice, and left one son and one daughter from his first wife.
