Full Honors For YD Hero Dyer Won By Knights Of Columbus
Oliver Dana Dyer of Leominster a former private in the 102d Machine Gun Battalion is to be buried in New York with full military honors rather than in Potter's Field. Knights from Governor's Island will escort and fire a salute. Dyer died last Tuesday in Blackwell's Island charity ward from illness linked to war wounds. His mother died recently and his only living relatives were a half sister and an uncle who declined to help. The Knights took charge after learning of the burial plan and Dyer enlisted in 1917, serving overseas with the D Company at Chemin des Dames Leicheprey and Chateau Thierry.
