The Monomoy life savers who perished Monday while attempting to rescue five men from the stranded barge Wadena are hailed for heroism. Lee Higginson & Co. urged funds to aid the five widows and 15 children, with broad community sympathy and early pledges of cooperation.
In Chatham a day of ceaseless search for Monomoy lifesavers and five rescuers continues with 12 missing after yesterday's wreck. The Azalea and revenue cutters assist along with lightships from Nantucket shoals. A temporary Monomoy crew led by Captain Seth N. Ellis replaces the lost men as communities rally with offers of aid and a possible reward for recovery. The sea is calmer today but the tragedy casts a pall over the district.

The Pentucket Club hosted the first in a series of banquets for newly appointed Secretary of the Navy William H Moody. Seth Bassett acted as toastmaster as 220 leading citizens attended Moody’s address emphasizing duties in Cuba and the Philippines and support for reciprocity with Cuba.
The 81st anniversary of the Paris Commune was observed by Boston Socialists with an event at America Hall 724 Washington Street. Speaker John Spargo formerly of London now based in New York discussed The Paris Commune and its Lesson, noted for his anti apartheid era stance and opposition to the war in South Africa.
Notices posted in the Hamilton Woollen Mills announce a 19 percent raise effective Monday March 17. About 80 hands are affected.
