Despatches from northern Corea report the entire Russian advance guard of twenty thousand men driven across the Yalu by combined Japanese forces that landed recently at Chinnapo and Wonsan. No details of the fighting have arrived.
Boston master bakers voted to reduce the five cent loaf by two ounces starting Monday to avoid legal penalties. A 14 ounce loaf will be termed a half-pound, with other prices scaled accordingly. They claim the change preserves living standards while boosting bakers’ profits, noting wage increases last May pressured the move.
James Hughes of Boston aged 60 was held up at 12 30 this morning on his way to Union station. A man pressed a revolver to his face, two workers assisted the robbed man into an alley and the thief took his gold watch and 3 50 in cash and fled.
