Washington March 17 The Senate voted 73 to 5 to ratify the Colombia canal treaty with no cheers as members spoke briefly on the matter The session focused on debate with Mor gan Cullom and Daniel among speakers The day closed with expectations of quick action on the Cuban reciprocity treaty and a probable ratification by a safe majority.
In New Haven on March 17 a conference between the New York New Haven Hartford railroad employees grievance committee and a board committee ended after a three hour session. The two sides planned informal talks tomorrow morning and would stay in the city pending word from the board.
President John M Hall of the New York New Haven and Hartford railroad reached Boston after an 11 pm arrival and went to Hotel Touraine. He had just completed a three hour conference with conductors trainmen and firemen representatives and left instructions not to be disturbed. Charles F Choate, a director on the conference committee negotiating with unions, was absent in New Haven due to illness.
