Virtually every Irish-American society in Greater New York formed in 45 battalions will pass in review before Eamonn De Valera. The St Patrick’s Day procession will feature the tri color alongside the American flag at the head of the marching columns.
A Mother's letter from Buffalo New York extols Father John's Medicine for two children. She notes the son recovered from pneumonia related lung pain after three bottles and the daughter suffered from recurring tonsillitis but improved. The ad claims the medicine is alcohol free and safe.
City budget hearing reveals Mayor Peters cut salary increases in the public buildings department without consulting Superintendent Fred J. Kneeland. Councilman Ford pressed Kneeland on the $11,000 year surplus, Kneeland attributing it to departmental efficiency and warned against taxpayer money being spent beyond necessity. Corporation Counsel Hill ruled the Council cannot alter budget items without Mayoral approval, aligning with earlier counsels.
The ancient St Patrick's Breastplate will be sung at the Church of the Advent tonight. Rev William Harman van Allen will preach on The Apostle of Ireland. Rev Chester I Birch conducts a revival at First Presbyterian with cooperation from Scotch Presbyterian Church and People's Temple. Dr William C Sturgis will speak on Nation-Wide Campaign at Trinity Church next Sunday morning.
Washington reports from Paris say a tentative Turkish settlement includes recognizing an independent Armenia and keeping the Sultan in Constantinople. The final plan would possibly involve an international high commission to control the straits and monitor the Sultan, with changes due to Cilicia and Anatolia events.
A joint hearing by the agriculture and public health committees on Wendell Phillips Thore's bill to create a State milk commission reported the measure should be referred to the next General Court for consideration.
The committee on military affairs reported leave to withdraw on a bill to award medals or certificates to State Guard members for service in Boston after the police strike.
Mrs. Mary A. Nickerson of Somerville testified she is a temperance worker and the first woman president of the Charlestown Gospel Temperance Union. She petitioned East Cambridge Court to set aside her divorce from Herbert P. Nickerson for intoxication. Judge Sanderson took the case under advisement. A former housemate, William G. Hawes, testified he saw her sign a pledge in 1917 and that she often appeared intoxicated at the Nickerson home, including an incident where she had to grasp a door knob to keep from falling.
Governor Coolidge urged in a message to the Legislature that the foreign and domestic commerce commission, created last year to serve until December 1 1920, be made a permanent body. The message was referred to the State administration committee for consideration.
The anti-strike bill to prohibit strikes by employees of publicly controlled street railways in this state was reported yesterday by the committee on street railways.
Wife of the captain of the Chilean steamer Yungai, which foundered off the Carolina coast last Saturday, Mrs. Mann leaped from the deck into the seething water thirty feet below and was rescued by the crew of the Limon.
A Chilean steamer Yungai faced imminent sinking but the crew rallied under a woman's courage bringing hope. All hands were rescued and landed here yesterday aboard United Fruit vessels.
Mrs. William A. Mann of Brooklyn leaps 39 feet from the Yungai to reach the lifeboat as the steamer Yungai sinks near Port Limon. Captain Mann and twenty crew follow, hauled aboard by a line. Seven other men launch the last lifeboat and are saved by the Limon.
Washington report states the naval appropriation bill authorizes no new warship construction. Requests for two giant seaplanes and a mammoth dirigible were refused. The bill totals $424.45 million, with a reduced average navy force of 120000 and Marine Corps strength set at 27400.
Captain L L T Hays and four crew members of the British schooner Maid of La Have, abandoned at sea last week, arrive to safety.
Two individuals arrived yesterday from New York and were taken into charges by the British consul-general. The men face formal proceedings as authorities determine their status.
