Special Despatch from Williams College reports a cane rush at Williams in which freshmen captured the cane at College Hall after a half hour of frantic pushing. Sophomores contested fiercely but could not prevail, and faculty approved the freshmen victory amid the class of 86 laurels.

In Harrisburg Pa at session end Senator Lee accused Senator McKnight of opposing constituents interests and dodging the free pipe bill. McKnight angrily retorted as Senator Emery backed the accusation. Emery slapped McKnight and McKnight struck back before others intervened and order was restored. A reconciliation followed as the senators left the chamber.
Early hours fire in East Hartford Willow Brook district killed two unmarried sisters Misses Hannah and Elizabeth Judson. Bodies found in a bed amid cellar ruins. cause unknown and suspicion of foul play lingers as neighbors say they lived alone.
Mrs Ellen Berningham dies in Louisville aged 107. Native of Tipperary Ireland she came to America 40 years ago and has lived in Louisville 23 years. She retained faculties until four years ago when she became helpless.
Mrs Downey of Lower Brighton died while returning from a village two miles away during Saturday's storm. She wandered from the road, fell headfirst into deep snow while attempting to climb a fence, and perished. Her body was found today in St John, New Brunswick.
In Worcester Massachusetts on March 15 Brattleboro Vermont defeated Worcester in a rifle contest with 977 to 948 points from a possible 1209. The teams comprised ten members from each association and competition was held at the Massachusetts target range.

Marcus the absconding New York broker was released on a writ of habeas corpus in Portland Oregon. In Braidwood Al six and a half feet of water remain to be pumped from the Diamond mine and bodies thought to lie nearby. Both parties in St Louis prepare for the charter election next month amid debate over high licenses. Senator Downing defends the bill and lawyers align.

Paul H. Stevens, 64, unmarried, living with his sister in Laconia, was found dead by hanging in his barn Thursday afternoon. Despondency due to ill health was named as the probable cause. He was a mason by trade and a G A R member.
