Relief Measures in Louisiana Rations Ordered Amid Demand

Washington reports the secretary of war received a telegram from Louisiana commissioners stating 11 000 people are being supplied for fifteen days from 116 000 rations already exhausted. Requests for more rations rise as distress grows, and 100 000 rations are authorized from New Orleans. The message also notes available steamers for the engineer department and assigns additional boats to Gen. Beckwith in St. Louis.

Dover youth inherits 55000 after mother’s death

Abbott Littlefield of Dover is reported to have fallen heir to 55000 following his mother’s death last week. Edwin Googwin of Lepanon Me. at Foye and Vinal's shoe factory East Rochester tripped an elevator way and sustained severe injuries. Rev H P Peck of Andover Mass theological seminary fourth year has accepted the pastorate at Plymouth Congregational Church with a 1000 salary to be settled March 30.

George Woods of South Hadley Falls died at 18 from heart disease. Mrs. Marion Thompson of Bradford, 84, has refused nourishment for 21 days. The body found at Amesbury is A. F. Warren of Lowell, missing since December 14. Lowell council debates liquor license transfers, passing a test vote to grant transfers. Horace G. Holden re elected water works superintendent amid board disputes over a vacancy.

Strike Spreads At Pacific Mills In Lawrence Massachusetts

Lawrence March 14 120 ring spinners desert their frames causing 64000 spindles to stop at the Pacific Mills wage reductions trigger in the worsted and cotton spinning departments with male spinners facing cuts from 125 to 150 a week and ring spinners from 90 cents to 51 cents per side per week, sparking fear and threatened further exodus. Superintendent Parker defends high pay while warning replacements will be hired if workers do not return.

Exciting chase ends with robber captured in Charlestown

Patrolman Lewis pursued burglars from John Carver’s store at Main and Alford streets. Timothy Mahoney was seized after a fast chase to Malden street, with 300 cigars and $18 liquor recovered. David Driscoll arrested as a companion. both men arraigned with $500 bail. other suspect remains at large.
