Chase toggles from seeking Ohio support to halting bid
The letter shows Mr Chase soliciting Ohio support for the Presidency in January then writing March 5 urging no further consideration of his name. A January 18 sentiment calls for energy to suppress the rebellion, while his friends note the January balance still mattered.
