Oil Producers Meeting Reflects Broad Radical Victory

Special Despatch to the Boston Post reports a quiet election with a Radical sweep aided by Washington and large money. Manchester shows a 468 vote gain for the Radicals, Straw ahead of Pike, and many Democrats abstained or were omitted from rolls. Legislation favors Radical control of the State and potential U S Senate seats.

Meriden Iron Works Fire Causes $50 000 Loss

The Meriden Malleable Iron Works in Meriden suffered a major blaze last night with total damages around 50000 dollars. Building loss estimated at 10000 and machinery loss the remainder. Insurance coverage totals 42000 across multiple companies including Franklin Home North American Springfield International Andes Liverpool London Globe Star People's National First National Westchester Fairfield County and South Norwalk among others.

End of Erie War as Gould resigns Presidency

New York March 12 reports Jay Gould has resigned the Erie Railway presidency and Gen John A Dix takes the chair. The reform regime is in control with Dix supervising departments, and trains running on time. Gould attempted to stay in power, but the new board offered him a director seat and dropped suits against reformers.

G W Smith formerly of the British army poisoned himself in the Acadian Hotel on Sunday morning. He was an actor recently from Boston traveling to England.
