Fire sweeps Brockton two story Curtis building in March blaze

A late night blaze in Brockton destroyed the Curtis building housing Piano and musical instrument dealers, a shoe firm, a picture shop, and a dentist. Fire spread from the basement amid snow and wind, threatening the Metropolitan Hotel. Total losses run high with goldthwaite drugs damaged and multiple insured properties. Firemen fought for hours to confine the flames.

Salvation Army Wedding in Malden Draws Hundreds

Havana reports bands of patriots led by Oliva and Hernandez clashed with Spanish troops for five hours near Mantua in Monteguelo. Dana Sees Cuban Situation Favorable to Cubans

Editor Charles A. Dana of the New York Sun, while leaving New Haven, called the Cuban situation favorable to the Cubans. He said Spain is near its end of resources and cannot send another army, predicting the current force will succumb to fever and disease as the Cubans hold the larger part of the island. He judged General Weyler not as good a general as Martinez Campos.

Man Caught Stealing Shoes at Union and Elm

Patrolman Hildreth of Division 2 nabbed a man in the act of breaking into a shoe store at Union and Elm last night. At the station he was booked as John J. Smith, 21, of 311 2 Fletcher Street, after breaking a window on the Elm side of the store.
