England Ignored France in Versailles Deliberations

Published diplomatic letters reveal England’s indifference toward France during peace talks at Versailles. Duc de Broglie arrived in London on the 24th and urged Earl Granville for armistice extension and indemnity reduction from six milliards. Granville declined to intervene on armistice and noted France could not pay the proposed sum. Odo Russell said he received the dispatch too late to act, but believed Bismarck had a duplicate copy before the five milliard indemnity was settled.
