Greece to respond to powers over Crete unrest

A London despatch notes Greece will answer the powers on Crete by framing the autonomy question as for the Cretans to decide. It says evacuation by Greece is impossible as peace remains unsettled, with troops and ships on Crete. The Daily News expects a peaceful solution while noting Greece may reject powers’ conditions.

Tragic Kitchen Fire Fatal to 17 Year Old

A deadly blaze in West Newton at F B Wetherbee's Perkins street home burned Mary McDonough, a 17 year old domestic, when a hot utensil ignited fat. Flames spread rapidly as passers-by fought the blaze with cloths and blankets. She died at Newton Hospital shortly after noon.

McKinley Attends Metropolitan Church on Quiet First Sunday

President McKinley and his mother attended services at the Metropolitan Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington. The crowd pressed the center entrance as Bishop Newman preached on repentance and public virtue, and the president tipped his hat to supporters on leaving.
