Dr. Charles Fleischer, head of the Sunday Commons, backed Anglo-Saxon Day on March 17 rather than St Patrick’s Day or Evacuation Day. John J. Murphy of Mayor Curley’s office tore into him at a gathering of the Evacuation Day committee of the South Boston Citizens’ Association in Columbus Hall last night.
The Evacuation Day committee voted to ignore Dr. Fleischer's remarks and endorsed March 17 as an American holiday. The meeting set the roster and route for the parade with the Prince Henry Guards slated to march, and planned historical exercises in South Boston.
