Recall of Lee Prolongs Busy Washington War Footing

The United States steamship Essex arrives at New York and is ordered to Portsmouth for rapid repairs. A Maine disaster court of inquiry may finish its investigations by tomorrow night.

SLAIN IN A DUEL Poet Cavalletti Killed by Editor Macola

Rome March 6 Sig Felice Cavalletti poet dramatist and Radical deputy for Corte Olona was killed today in a sword duel with Sig Macola editor of Gazzetta Di Venezia. The duel followed a press polemic and Cavalletti died ten minutes after a throat wound while Macola remained uninjured.

Tug Underwriter Reaches Charleston After Heavy Storm

The tug Underwriter towing the Merritt Derrick Chief entered Charleston Harbor after a rough gale off Hatteras. The voyage lasted a day with seas washing the deck load of coal and the crew busy. Chief lost copper bottom. mate Hammond and fireman Bellamy were hospitalized.

A four handed duel occurred among Fulton county farmers over a lawsuit. Participants Joe Lynch, his son Hart Lynch, Wade Harring, and James Morris were seriously injured in Paducah Kentucky on March 6.

The barkentine Herbert Fuller arrives in Boston under U S marshal guard after a governor’s inquiry links Mate Bram to the killing of Captain Nash his wife and the second mate at sea. Helm Patrick dies in Dublin nobleman lord lieutenant

London March 6. San Trent Hamilton Baron Helm Patrick of Helm Patrick County Dublin is dead. He served as lord lieutenant and custos rotulorum of County Dublin. Born 1839 he married Victoria daughter of General Lord Charles Wellesley and sister of the third Duke of Wellington.
