New York Testimonial Honors Mr A A Lovett at Stevens House

A formal testimonial banquet in New York honored Mr A A Lovett, Superintendent of the People's Telegraph line. Present were managers from various offices including Boston and Philadelphia figures. Richmond papers report Kilpatrick's forces reached within three miles of the city and Gen Lee narrowly escaped capture. Gen Wise also nearly caught at the rebel Secretary’s residence. Sherman destroys forty six miles of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad and legs of the Southern line Meridian to Jackson. Eight hundred Negroes captured. Olustree battle counts 11 infantry regiments and 3 artillery batteries with 800 total losses.
