Jobbers Asked to Cooperate on News Print Prices

Washington March 3 The Federal Trade Commission asked news print jobbers nationwide to reduce prices to newspapers if it aids the FTC price fixing plan. The commission seeks assurance jobbers buying from manufacturers at low cost will not press publishers into high price contracts. Manufacturers and publishers have already agreed to price arbitration. jobbers’ consent could trigger immediate action. Some jobbers favor the plan, others have not decided.

Missing Man Found After Six Weeks of Uncertainty

Six Somerville Boy Scouts and Scout-master Willis H. Farnum recovered a hat coat vest and money from the woods and handed the lot to Rev. William H. Dyas who took it to Chief Kendall. The missing man who had wandered into the Fells station weeks earlier left letters claiming innocence of murder and expressed intent to end his life. The notes addressed to Archibald Currie of Ione California and Dr. MacCauley of Paterson New Jersey suggest a troubled youth named Paul Currie.

Paterson Latin Teacher Resigned to Seek Father in California

Paul C. Durrie, a Latin teacher at Paterson High School until last Christmas, left for California to join his father. He arrived in Paterson in September 1915 and boarded at 448 Van Houten Street. Rev. Dr. Hugh B. MacCauley, who received a note in clothes claiming innocence of murder, says Durrie was known here and Princeton friends inquired after him, suggesting he may not have reached California yet.

Fire destroys cotton cargo on liner Carolinian

In Baltimore a fire gutted the hold of the British steamship Carolinian of the Garlic line, destroying several thousand tons of cotton bound for Liverpool and other merchandise assigned to the Allies. The ship, with about finished loading, would have cleared tomorrow. The vessel’s capacity is 7000 tons and the fire's origin remains undetermined.
