A local retailer advertises drastic hat price cuts effective March 10. Men's self conforming hats drop to 2.50 from 3.50 while fur stock Derby hats go to 1.50 from 2.00. Winter caps and cloth hats also feature steep reductions.
About 200 pairs of blankets will be sold at 3 4 and 5 dollars per pair to avoid packing them away. The prices reflect the same levels previously charged at 5 6 and 8 dollars per pair.

Margaret Quinn fell while boarding a Metropolitan car at Washington and Hanover and broke her left leg. She is reported at City Hospital. Mrs. William Quinn of 127 West Seventh Street South Boston was knocked down by a Metropolitan car yesterday afternoon and severely injured, and was returned home by police ambulance.
Dr Charles Files was arrested in the Crawford House by Officers Leary and Coolidge on a warrant issued by Deputy Sheriff Black of Portland for allegedly abortion. The woman was in critical condition when taken. authorities feared she would die. James N. Talmage, a Wagner drawing room car conductor and nephew of Rev Dr T De Witt Talmage, was struck by an engine at the actebro Central depot yard in New York and killed instantly.
London March 1 The House of Commons hears a demand for a committee to probe alleged corrupt expenditures by the London corporation on bogus meetings to defeat reform. George Howell claims £20,000 was diverted. Gladstone and W H Smith back a public inquiry, with evidence of payments to non existent persons.
The National Union League meeting in Wasmacrox elected General Charles H. Grosevenor of Ohio as president with several vice presidents including William E. Chandler of New Hampshire and C. A. Boutelle of Maine. Resolutions warn of Democratic rise and urge Republican strength in the South and solidifying Southern support. A fifteen member committee to implement the policy was appointed.
In Rome on March 1 the American bishops receive a favorable view of the Knights of Labor. Cardinal Gibbons has sent a formal statement to the Vatican arguing the organization should be treated leniently. The Senate appropriations committee raises the naval bill by about 21 to 22 million with next year’s add on not to exceed 6 million, total year expenditure up to 31 to 82 million.
