Foggy Harbor Day Sees Few Arrivals and Fleet Movements
On a dreary fog bound day along the waterfront four coasting steamers and five delayed foreign vessels were the only arrivals. The Boston sailed, the State of Maine and H M Whitney also came and the Venus brought haddock. Captain Davies reported rough seas, fog, and a near collision with the S Ny. Lackenbach while en route from Baltimore to Matanzas. The Kansas and Lancastrian faced westerly gales and high seas, with minor damage to cattle fittings. Various steamers anchored near lightships as crews discuss union labor actions and port operations. The Admiral Farragut and Admiral Lemsey were noted to adjust routes, and a drag on Pollock Rip bell buoy caused navigation concerns.
