Gifford Pinchot former U S chief forester and Battle against Ballinger may be nominated by a Republican Democrat coalition in Pennsylvania. He would seek Roosevelt support and campaign funds reportedly from John D Rockefeller though officials doubt Standard Oil backing a Roosevelt ticket.
Albert Johnson, 40, of Cranston, drowned in the Pawtucket river at Warwick side after stepping into a hole while bathing with three non swimmers. A passing canoeists did not stop to assist despite his calls for help. Johnson was unmarried.
