Yale defeats Harvard 6 to 1 in New Haven with strong team play from both sides. About 8000 spectators witness Yale’s superior defense and timely hitting. A decisive championship game will be held on neutral grounds, likely in New York.
New York June 28 coroner's jury finds negligence by Knickerbocker Steamboat Co directors caused the Slocum tragedy. Captain Van Schaick and Captain Pease are named criminally responsible. Mate Flannagan accused of cowardly conduct. Warrants issued for company directors. Inspector Lundberg and Flannagan held on 1000 bail each. charges are second degree manslaughter. Bail amounts range 1000 to 5000.
The Essex County Republican gathering at the Colonial Arms heard Lodge Bates and Gard ner address 400 leading Republican officials and supporters. Enthusiasm ran high as Bates praised the party’s strength ahead of Roosevelt and Fairbanks, with Governor Bates highlighting contrasts within the party. Continued on Page 9 First Column.
Thomas Goodrich a 45 year old married man died at Relief Hospital from injuries after being caught in a shafting at Building 39 in Charles Town navy yard. The shafting ran at 100 revolutions per minute and caused multiple severe injuries before his death.
Despatches from Tokio report a hurried Russian retreat across a 10 mile frontline with heavy Japanese pressure. Casualties are expected to be numerous as Kuropatkin withdraws, unable to stop the advance and risking a rear guard fight within 24 hours.

Waltham June 28 Miss Mellick superintendent is hailed as heroine after a fire at the Baby Hospital. She kept calm preventing panic as nurses moved several score infants from the flames which started in the kitchen. She directed two assistants with buckets and a small hose while supervising the transfer and then helped extinguish the fire before the department arrived.
St Petersburg June 28 tele gram from General Kuropatkin announces his retreat and that General Kuroki’s army has crossed the Fenshui passes and advances in strong columns from Stuyen Haicheng and Ce Te A Tn. Continued on page 10 second column.
Burlington, June 28. Dr. P. H. McMahon, a leading Burlington physician, is sued for 10000 damages by C. N. King for alleged alienation of Mrs. Kings affections. The case cites years of alleged intimacy starting in 1899 and notes the Kings married in 1878 with several children. The writ was served as Dr. McMahon was about to attend his fathers funeral. The return date is September term.
Police search for Lulu M Burgzell aged 10 of 7 Princeton Street East Boston and Garda Erickson aged 26 of 2 Bellevue Street Jamaica Plain as investigators pursue leads in the disappearance.
