Ten thousand spectators lined Marine Park for a solemn tribute to Farragut with a civic parade militia cadets and school children present. The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of a silken banner as The Star Spangled Banner rang out and a fleet of ships watched from the bay.
A grand parade from Dorchester Avenue to Marine Park celebrated the unveiling of Admiral Farragut’s bronze statue. The Naval Brigade led by Commander Soley, U S Marines, sailors, and Kearsarge veterans marched with precision amid cheers from spectators. Governor Rice spoke on Farragut’s life and heroism, ending with the unveiling by Alderman Flood’s daughter Mamie as the flag dropped.
A South Boston event featured a large crowd, a band concert in Marine Park, and a fireworks display ending with Farragut shown over a spread eagle. Open houses filled clubs and homes, followed by a Parker House banquet in Boston with about one hundred plates. Ex Governor Rice spoke as central figure with city officials and naval guests in attendance.
Daniel Swanton, a young drum major with the St. Vincent Cadets, led a crowd watching his park staff exhibition, collecting copper and nickels. A disruptive spectator was escorted away by Boston police as Carter's Band aided by reporters drew space on the band stand. The Assumption Cadets of East Boston impressed with veteran marching while Governor Rice accidentally showered reporters with water during the reading.
A gas explosion at Green Ridge colliery in Mount Carmel Pennsylvania owned by Union Coal Company occurred at 7 o clock this morning. Dominick Enderlay was killed Ches tira Kesner fatally injured Joseph Menepact Anthony Patsco Ignatz Grofsky Joe Carlina Cashimere Altinosky and an unknown Polander were seriously injured. The unnamed Polish worker is badly burned and not expected to recover.
Boston citizens rapidly filled the Music Hall fund, totaling 400000 with more contributions arriving. Treasurer Boardman receives gifts as the city’s artistic institutions gain a new home for a high class musical program and the Symphony Orchestra may stay in Boston.
The funeral was held from 143 Congress Avenue yesterday morning with Rev. J. M. Higgins of Mt. Bellingham M E Church conducting the services and the interment at Woodlawn. Chelsea grammar schools held their graduation at 9:30 AM at the Academy of Music with an invocation by Rev. Charles E. Jefferson, salutatory by Charles Dennison, class history by Miss Florence E. Wyatt, and valedictory by Walter G. Sargent. Diplomas were awarded by Hon. F. O. Barnes with music directed by George A. Veazie.
Graduation exercises for Everett grammar schools will be held Friday morning at the YMCA Hall. Rev. A A Miner of Boston will deliver the address. Nellie B Paris wife of Matthew G Paris has been located at her mother's home in Providence after being missing since last Friday providing relief to relatives and friends.
The funeral for Mrs Catherine Wilson was held yesterday from her home at 32 Orleans Street. Also buried yesterday afternoon were the remains of Henry J Fanning of 227 Beverett Street who died from injuries at the Atlantic Works. interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Miss Annie Devlan received gifts at a party honoring the end of her school career including a piano from her father a gold watch from her mother and a writing desk from friends. presented by Miss Rose Quigley. The event was among the largest in the first section and deemed highly successful.
The well known undertaker H. D. Raney leaves business to reside on his newly purchased Boothbay Maine farm. Plans for Somerville Fourth of July demonstrations rapidly unfold signaling the city’s largest celebration yet. Afternoon events include a one mile bicycle race for boys 18 and under and a 100 yard dash for West Somerville athletes.
Philadelphia report says William Locke, once noted for sacrificing a child, was discharged last week but showed renewed insanity yesterday. He expelled his family from the house, was visited by counsel, returned to the asylum, then raved and had to be confined in a cell to prevent self harm.

C. F. Knapp, foreman of the wood room, was fatally injured at 5 15 PM in Madison Maine when a belt malfunction hurled him into a pulley. He aged 40, with multiple injuries including broken arms jaw, crushed head and several broken ribs. He cannot live.
