Ottawa reports Washington plans a conference to preserve Behring Sea fisheries without settling exclusive US jurisdiction. Negotiations began by Secretary Bayard nearly five years ago. Britain Germany and Japan are willing to join. Canada seeks compensation for seized vessels.
In Charleston South Carolina June 24 Dr T B McDow stands trial for his life charged with killing Captain Dawson. Court crowded with all classes represented clerics present. Jury includes five white and seven colored members. McDow defended by ex Governor McGrath and Asher D Cohen with Solicitor Jervey and H A M Smith prosecuting. First witness Policeman Gordon testified McDow surrendered after the shooting. Trial likely to continue beyond Tuesday.
The Civil Service Commission reports on the Milwaukee Post Office finding Postmaster G. H. Paul repeatedly violated the law and manipulated eligibles lists. It notes his term is expired, cites lack of proof of political motive, and declares he should be severely censured.
Coombs a six month resident fell for a gold brick swindle in San Francisco losing 8000 dollars. Authorities report a separate raid seized 1200 gallons of cider and 400 gallons of wine from John Corbett in the northern town area.

Captain Shaw of the Delta reports General Hippolyte has arrived at Cape Hayti with his staff and plans to rejoin his army near Port au Prince. Private letters from Port au Prince say the city is highly agitated as Légitime refuses to leave or surrender, with fears of an insurrection.
Providence R I June 24 Governor Ladd says an extra session of the General Assembly will be called to revise the liquor traffic statutes. He will tally last Thursday’s election votes and proclaim the result at once. A new State police chief will be appointed after a satisfactory candidate exam.
Steamer Olivette of the Dant line made the first Boston to Eastport run, arriving Sunday and returning this afternoon. She carried a large number of passengers. All hotels except three at Bar Harbor are open, and the season has begun three weeks earlier than usual.
