Arrival of the Ninth Regiment in Boston Amid Enthusiasm
The Ninth Regiment of Volunteers arrived after a delay caused by a Saturday departure. Crowds packed State and Commercial streets while Gilmore's Band led the escort and Governor Andrew addressed Col. Cass before the regiment sailed aboard the Nelly Baker. The Essex County Regiment later arrived as the Thirteenth, with Mugford Guards and Marblehead bands, and Cobb's Light Battery prepared for Washington.
