Congress grants the president power to draft the militia into national service for a three year term. One million dollars is appropriated to care for militiamen families. Dependents may receive fifty dollars per month. Only two votes opposed in Congress. The state of war is deemed imminent and broad presidential powers are approved.

House votes nearly unanimously to affirm the Presidents emergency for National Guard use in the Mexican crisis. The measure would authorize federal service for guardsmen and allocate one million dollars to aid dependent families, with up to fifty dollars monthly per family.

Miss Alice Daland of Brookline and Miss Olivia Hemenway of New York, members of the 1918 class, accompany Miss Key on a mercy tour. Daland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tucker Daland, belongs to the Vincent Club and Sewing Circle. Key and Hemenway are active in New York society and well connected in Boston. All three offered services on commencement day to the local relief corps and were accepted.
