Violence erupted as factions of the Butte Miners Union clashed with deputy sheriffs. Three men were shot and one killed during the hall clearing, while dynamite charges aimed at the miners hall failed to do significant damage and were thwarted by deputies.

A five story John B Varick Company building on Elm Street burned after 2 30 am fire alarm rang out. Explosions from oils and varnishes hampered firefighting injuring two firemen and blowing a hoseman through a plate glass window. The hardware firm, large in New England, faces heavy losses with two prior fires at the site.
General alarm sounded as fire moved from basement to ground floor in a building with paints and oils. Chief Thomas W. Lane ordered additional alarms bringing city and Amoskeag Mills apparatus to the scene. Fire originated in a paint and oil stored basement.
Sioux Falls reports a tornado striking Water Town S D causing nine deaths and 40 injuries with 300 buildings destroyed. Telegraph and telephone communications were severed leaving limited details though further damage and possible additional fatalities were feared.

Glenn H. Curtiss and Lieutenant John Cyril Porte flew the American flying boat America here on June 23. The 3500 pound craft reached 65 mph on half power with several flights. Porte praised its steadiness and power describing it as the finest machine he ever rode.
At Hammondsport Curtiss showcases a 72 foot wing span 3500 pound flying boat on Lake Keuka. He makes the first three flights while Lieutenant Porte pilots the final three journeys over the lake.
Winthrop firemen battled a basement to attic blaze at the residence of John Herbert 131 Circuit Road. The cause is believed spontaneous. the building suffered slight structural damage but contents loss estimated at 500 dollars.
James F. Pond a 73 year old Roxbury real estate man and the sole surviving Jesse Pomeroy jury member says it is never too late to wed. He reveals a secret marriage a week ago to former client Mrs Annie E Croker 68 of Roxbury claiming a June bride choice.
A Roxbury couple tied the knot a week ago at the home of Rev. Charles A. Fulton. The marriage followed a decade of friendship between Mrs. Croker and Mr. Pond, both longtime Roxbury residents. Mr. Croker and Mrs. Pond each died before their spouses, prompting renewed affection and a license taken a year earlier. The wedding license was returned to City Hall yesterday.
