Hooker Day Crowds Set for Historic City Welcome

Anxious crowds of sight seers flood the city as hotels fill. Plan includes Hooker brigade assembly at Faneuil Hall at 7:30 a.m. followed by marches, statue unveiling at the State House, a governor led review, and public events at Mechanics Hall.

ALICEMAN FORCED TO DRAW REVOLVER IN CHARGE OF DRUNKEN Wyman

Patrolman Livingston of East Dedham street station arrested William Wyman of 12 James Street for drunkenness after a mob of about 200 men and boys formed near the Hotel Plaza on Columbus Avenue. The crowd tried to rescue Wyman, striking the officer with kicks and fists until the patrol wagon arrived. Wyman faces assault charges in court, with additional counts expected.

McSweeney Faces Embezzlement Charges at Ellis Island

Washington June 23. Edward F. McSweeney, former assistant immigration commissioner at New York, had his case heard by the President’s appointee and U.S. Attorney Burnett. The inquiry found he removed about 4000 papers including 136 official documents, stored them as his property, and failed to justify the actions. Prosecution is to proceed.

King Peter Nears Servia in Vienna Stopover

King Peter arrived from Geneva to Vienna at 9 45 p m and left for Belgrade at 10 10 p m He was greeted by Serb Croatian and Montenegrin students and a Belgrade delegation led by the Mayor He said he was pleased to return to Belgrade after exile and spoke on the challenge of punishing Alexander and Draga's assassins given a prior pardon by the Servian National Assembly prior to his election.

Fear Lynchings Beset Peoria After Detective Slaying

Peoria Illinois June 3 Detective William E Murphy was killed by Billy McRae a negro desperado whom he tried to arrest on burglary charges. McRae shot Murphy in the breast and fled but was captured by Detective Chadwick. Murphy died at the hospital within twenty minutes. A mob of about 1000 men gathered at the jail as McRae was taken there.

Prisoner Demanded as City Guards Jail

Citizens demanded the prisoner be surrendered but the chief refused and smuggled him to the county jail. The city police were deployed to guard the jail and prevent an incident.

Lynching Expected Near St. Louis Sparks Tense Search

Two women, one white and one colored, were assaulted and left for dead about 312 miles east of East St. Louis. A posse hunts a described Negro. authorities fear a lynching if he is caught as farmers react with great excitement and indignation.

Nationalist members of the Dublin Corporation voted 25 to 3 against presenting an address of welcome and loyalty to King Edward during his planned visit to Ireland. The private meeting was held in Dublin and concluded with no greeting to the king.
