Charges and Building Permits Amid Steamer Dispute
A clash between captains of steamers J Putnam Bradlee and Samuel Little prompts an official probe. Health officials allege threats and attempted collision, seeking license revocation for Bradlee. The Public Institutions board found no foundation to the charges. The week also reports multiple building permits granted, including dwellings, a mercantile block, a store and various workshops, plus piano factory and machine shop authorizations. Music on the Fourth.

Central court closure at Jordan Marsh connects two buildings
A brick structure linking the front and rear stores of Jordan Marsh & Co. has been erected since Saturday forenoon, spanning about thirty feet and sixty feet wide, up to the second floor. Architect Mr Pope says building rights are controlled by the firm, and the April Supreme Court ruling that Central court is not public supports their action.
