Astronomer Gould Delivers South American Sky Report in Boston

At a Wesleya n Hall reception attended by Charles Francis Adams and Henry W. Longfellow, Dr. Benjamin Apthorp Gould detailed his work at Cordoba Argentina. He described cataloging stars between 31 degrees south and Gilliss’s northern limit, noting progress since Bessel Lalande Argelander and Gilliss. Gould highlighted 56,000 observations in 619 zones and 33,000 stars cataloged, with Uranometria Argentina in progress and a National Observatory established.
