James Harris shot and killed his brother Charles after a fight at a North Reading farmhouse. The men, once living together but estranged, were attacked and Charles was cut with an axe before the fatal shot. Harris then drove to town and set up the scene, according to police reports.
Michael Matthew Cunniff longtime Boston politician and banker died at his home on Beacon Street after a two months illness. He was 65 and headed a banking and brokerage firm with offices on State Street.
Mr. Cunniff born in 1849 in Roscommon Ireland came to the U S as a child. He built a fortune in gas securities and real estate while holding influential political posts including Democratic City Committee chair. Services planned for Tuesday at St Aidan's Brookline. widow sister of Judge McLaughlin survives with five children.

Lord Kitchener of Khartoum is made an earl, while Sir Herbert Cosens-Hardy Sir Edgar Vincent Major-General John Fielden Brocklehurst and Sir Leonard Lyell are raised to barons.

James Harris of North Reading killed his brother Charles Harris in the Harris farm house on Chestnut street. The fight involved an axe and a revolver ending with Charles dead on the kitchen floor and James fleeing toward the North Reading police station to surrender. James Harris is in Reading Centre police custody charged with first degree murder awaiting preliminary hearing at Woburn Police Court.
