Trial hinges on doctors in Lorenz murder case
Ernest Wilhelm Lorenz the former angel cake baker from New Bedford and Wareham Massachusetts faced no trial in Providence Superior Court as three physicians chosen by Judge Beker disagreed on his mental state. One doctor declared insanity and that Lorenz planned highway robberies including the Mann killing while others found him insane. Lorenz faces five indictments four robberies and one murder and has pleaded guilty to one holdup. If found sane he will plead to all charges and face a life sentence at Cranston. Lorenz also claimed a Cape Cod wife and child and denied strangling Miss Regester last May in Elmwood Cemetery.

Vacationists Burned Alive in Cottage Fire at Bates Park
Two men died in a fire that destroyed the Century Club cottage and an adjoining residence in Beverly. Henry B. Barrett of Peabody and Bert McShane of Salem perished. Jeremiah O Connell alerted others and escaped through a window. The losses were under $1000.
