Gredit Mobilier Patterson polled 25 votes for New Hampshire senatorship yesterday, five more than Wednesday, as Republicans who backed Garfield president appear ready to back Patterson for the Senate.
June 21 1880 Columbus Ohio the Democratic state convention drew the largest crowd ever seen at the opera house with overcapacity seating. John McSweeny was named permanent chairman as speeches praised General Durbin Ward and George Geddes while a long platform urged tariff reform civil service cleansing and abolition of corrupt practices in public life.
In Salem on June 21 the board of aldermen approved raising fire department driver pay from 60 to 75 dollars. They also passed an ordinance increasing steamers pay from 75 to 100 dollars. The committee stated hose company 5 had not taken city property from the hose house and recommended against passing the ordinance to reduce the board of engineers. They supported locating a fourth steamer at the South Salem hose house. The first Salem Bay Yacht Club regatta was rained out with five boats starting. none finished within the allotted time. The Comus time recorded was 3 hours 24 minutes 303.
The Washington Light Infantry of Charleston S C arrived in Hartford Connecticut from New Haven at 2 30 P M. They were welcomed with a 15 gun salute joined by the city battalion and the Connecticut national guard first regiment. A street parade followed by armory reception featured addresses by Mayor Bulkley Col Barbour Gov Waller and responses by Mayor Courtenay and ex Attorney General Yeomans. The group was greeted with flags city decorations and entresments tonight. Tomorrow they tour the Cheney silk factory and the city with a large reception planned at the first regiment armory before departure Saturday morning.
In a noon joint convention ballot for United States senator, Rollins fell 10 votes from yesterday while Patterson gained five, Briggs three, and Prescott two. A Dover meeting adjourned after 75 attended, with debates on whether Rollins should be backed until election becomes unlikely. No formal ballot planned until Tuesday. some votes will be cast tomorrow and Monday.
A several days long storm caused a massive landslide on Flame Mountain in Franconia Notch. Water rushing through the stream carried boulders weighing thousands of tons into the Pemigewasset River, extending the high walls about 500 feet and creating a grand, though pecuniary damage free, scene viewed from near the Flame House.

About 800 spectators saw the event which was considered tame as Sullivan had failed to appear a few days earlier.
In Philadelphia on June 21 eastern iron masters gathered to approve a new price schedule for extra sizes above the base price. Oliver Williams of Catasauqua chaired as about 20 iron masters attended and a committee was formed to draft the revised tariff adjusted pricing.
Warrants issued in Richmond for Richard F. Bierne editor of the State and W C Elam editor of the Whig on a charge they planned to break the peace by dueling. Neither is in town. Elam is at present the secretary of the commonwealth of Virginia.

James Whalen, six years old, of Randolph, suffered a skull fracture when struck by a rock while blasting rocks there on Thursday. He was brought to the city and admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital. On the Nahant steamer’s return trip, harbor police were notified of a separate discovery late Thursday afternoon.
Washington June 21 The Hill investigating committee cross examined Congressman March amid sharp exchanges over alleged fraud and incompetency by Hill. Evidence included contracts by the supervising architect. Frank Taylor of Manly Cooper testified on Hill bid actions as Till testified to refute charges. The committee adjourned to 10:30 tomorrow to continue the Manly Cooper case. Treasury notes show gold and silver holdings and receipts from internal revenue and customs. Alabama Claims include judgments for the United States in Warren receiver case for 250000 and other award announcements with dates from 1864. court adjourned until Monday.
New York June 21 The New York Yacht Club held its annual regatta on a bright warm day with variable winds. The 38 mile race from off Bay Ridge to the light ship and back saw Crusader win the schooner class while Wenonah and Vixen topped their sloop classes. Hildegarde dismasted near quarantine and While Away lost its topmast as seven schooners and twelve sloops competed. The start and finish were interesting events.
