Yesterday proved a day of flops in the league standings as eight clubs shifted positions. Boston dropped from fourth to fifth after losing to Brooklyn while Chicago beat Pittsburgh in a 14 inning game. New York defeated Philadelphia causing Philadelphia to yield the lead to Hanlon's team. Cincinnati defeated St Louis pushing the TeBeau ties into last place.
Brooklyn wins the game after a five-run first inning by Boston, aided by walks and errors. Willis labors early, allows five unearned runs, then steadies but cannot win. Long homers for Boston. Kitson easy for Brooklyn hitters. Outfield errors and strong defense mark the rest as Boston heads to New York for three games before returning to face the Phillies.

Both crews have lengthened slides and shortened body swing creating a smooth symmetric power stroke. The Harvard eight shows long slide, simultaneous body and oar catch, and back leg drive with shoulder engaged late. Freshman and varsity crews practiced on Thames with time rows near 10 35 for the course as the tide ran out. George Mumford leaves for Boston tomorrow but is expected back before the race.
