Rattan furniture has begun its season with claims of unique durability comfort and lightness. The material supposedly never cools like upholstered items and gains a golden patina over time. A large sofa is described as portable as a chair and a full line from leading makers is offered.
Washington June 19 forecast shows Monday showers for Maine New Hampshire and Vermont with southwest winds and warmer temperatures. Massachusetts Rhode Island and Connecticut expect light rain and clearing later with warmer conditions except Rhode Island. Eastern New York likely showers then fair and warmer with southwest winds.

A special outing named ladies day took place yesterday with about 100 people and friends of the club enjoying a harbor sail aboard the barge Cap e L. Mather. The morning voyage started and returned around six o clock with music provided by the West Point band.
Washington June 19 secretary Chauncey M Depew has decided to accept Blaine's place as secretary of state. The decision cropped out this afternoon to a small circle, surprising no one. The secrecy surrounding the matter remains unexplained.
J Johnson, one of the negroes linked to Merchant Coldqueen’s murder in Magnolia County, was hanged by a mob of about two thousand in Hanged by a mob. He confessed to implicate Joe Gray and John Williams, who are jailed in Magnolia. The mob seized an engine and headed to Magnolia to retrieve the two prisoners for possible further executions.
London reports a political row as Lady Henry Somerset offers to campaign against Sir Charles Dilke for Forest of Dean in moral grounds, with Mr Stead named as ally. Wemyss rejects the plan, vowing to fight on issues alone. Miners loyal to Dilke threaten to duck Lady Somerset and tar and feather Stead if she pursues the stunt.

In Haverhill June 19 a large funeral for Captain Robert L. Spear proprietor of the Haverhill Gazette. Floral tributes filled the scene as the Episcopal burial service was read by Rev. D. J. Ayes. The Philharmonic Male Quartet provided music. Knights of Pythias Odd Fellows and Elks attended in large numbers, escorting the cortege to Woodlawn Cemetery in Salem for burial.
In South Weymouth on June 19 officers Connant Bailey Nash and Caldwell raided the Washington street home of Thomas LeClaire and visited Pool's Tavern run by Quincy Pool. A substantial quantity of liquor was found at both locations.

Peacemaker Charles P. Goodman was roughly handled by four men on the Common. Michael O'Donnell, Daniel A. Connor, James Sweeney, and John Thompson were arrested by Division 4 officers on charges of assault and battery after they allegedly tied up and thrashed a drunken stranger while Goodman protested. The intoxicated man escaped custody.
James G. Blaine and wife reached this city at 6 35 yesterday en route to Chicago to mourn their eldest son Emmons Blaine who died Saturday morning. They rested at Youngs until 10 then boarded the Boston Albany train. No visitors were received at their apartments during the stay.
J H Manley issues a statement denying reports that Emmons Blaine left Minneapolis broken by defeat. He says Blaine was in good health and high spirits, stayed with Manley at the West Hotel, and spoke of a hopeful future. He recalls Blaine’s parting words to Maine and promises a summer reunion.
Judge Nelson ruled the indictments insufficiently specific, freeing Fe ter French and Dana. If retrials occur, new indictments must be drawn with substantial labor and cost. Ex Governor Robinson may participate in future proceedings if they occur.
