Supporters of the president hold an 18 vote margin over the threshold needed to control the party. Taft men cheer as Roosevelt declares that Root votes will not all be cast for Taft.
Roosevelt confronted the Chicago delegates at midnight demanding unseating 80 delegates he calls fraudulently seated. He urged loyalty to leaders and warned honesty must win in the Republican contest. He noted shifts: 22 Root supporters switching to Roosevelt and several other pledged changes across states Maryland Oregon and North Carolina.
A four alarm blaze broke out yesterday afternoon under a porch on Letterfine terrace off Howard Avenue in Dorchester. The fire spread to three adjacent houses on the same street and to two more on Woodcliff street, with embers carried by winds causing fires in about 20 additional dwellings.
The New England Telephone and Telegraph Company announced concessions to operators including an eight hour workday to take effect on or before January 1. The changes also improve the split shift and extend the right to appeal, with officials believing the strike danger is now over.

Returning from Race Point, the vessel entered Lewis wharf severely crippled, with a loose stuffing box allowing water ingress. it will be towed to Simpson's drydock in East Boston and may be out of service a day or two.
About 30 youths attacked George Loftus a Philadelphia strike breaking motorman on a City Point Roxbury Crossing streetcar at IL Street and East Broadway last night. The conductor drove the assailants back with a switch stick and Loftus was not seriously injured.
