Despite rain and cold an estimated 100000 people gathered at Charlestown to see the day pageant events. The morning carnival floats were omitted due to weather but were promised for the evening electrical parade, which was postponed by nightfall with officials announcing a rescheduled Thursday event.
The general grand council of Royal and Select Masters meets in Massachusetts for its ninth triennial session at the Masonic Temple with delegates from every affiliated grand council except California. Grand Master Crandon of Cambridge and General Grand Master Swanstrom of St. Paul preside. reports and credentials addressed. officers elected. a banquet and reception follow at the Algonquin Club and Hotel Vendome.
Cincinnati June 18 John M Pattison governor of Ohio died at his Milford home at 4 20 PM. Earlier reports had been favorable and physicians testified he could transact official business shortly before death. His illness followed a taxing campaign and malaria earlier, with a stormy January inauguration and a long illness that ended in his passing.
Joseph Sundrea, 37, of 5 Bakers Alley North End, was stabbed five times in seconds on Richmond Street near North. He was taken to Reliief station where wounds were dressed. He refused to identify the assailant and was held at Hanover Street station on drunkenness charges.
Benjamin Stott ten year old Fort Edward resident was found lashed to the Delaware and Hudson line between Fort Edward and Sandy Hill. A track walker freed him before a train arrived. He said two young men seized him and fled, police seek the assailants.
In Philadelphia on June 18 Freddie Muth, abducted from his school on Tuesday, was found by Chief of Detectives Donaghy at 426 North Sixty-second Street. The kidnapper John Joseph Kean was arrested after days of search by 400 officers.
A 7 year old boy was kidnapped by a 42 year old former stock broker turned real estate agent. Police fired on Kean who surrendered and was taken to headquarters. The kidnapper demanded 5000 dollars for the boy and pledged to kill both if not paid. Subsequent letters repeated terms and were printed in newspapers while police faced public distrust. The boy, hungry and exposed, appeared unharmed.
Boston Americans lose a 15 inning game at Chicago 4 to 3 with Dineen pitching. Boston Nationals beat the Chicagos 2 to 1 in a spectacular contest.
