A four year old named George Doherty of 4 Prospect Street Charles Town was playing with matches when his clothing caught fire. Despite quick efforts by Miss Idizzie Sullivan and medical aid, he died this morning at the relief station after severe burns sustained yesterday afternoon.
Mrs. James Curry of 74 Francis Street Roxbury and her 11 month old infant narrowly escaped severe injuries when children playing with matches ignited kitchen woodwork. Mrs Curry suffered burns while extinguishing the blaze. the infant had a minor head burn. Firemen removed them after a Box 27 alarm. the damaged house owned by Mrs Curry was assessed at about $100.
James C. Stanwell a married man aged 46 Dale Street Roxbury died en route to City Hospital after leaping from a moving electric car on Warren Street near Dale despite conductor warnings. He struck his head and collapsed, breathing until aid arrived.
The American Library Association sessions in Magnolia featured steady meetings from morning into night. Officers elected include President Otto Fleischer of Boston Public Library, Vice-President Deloraine T. Corey of Malden Public Library, Secretary T. Franklin Currier of Harvard University, Treasurer Theodosia E. MacCurdy of Boston Public Library, and Recorder Mina E. Browne of Boston Public Library.

Indianapolis June 18 A national convention of the United Mine Workers of America is called for July 17 to decide whether soft coal miners will strike to aid Pennsylvania anthracite miners. Delegates are apportioned at one for every 100 members plus fractions over 50, totaling about 1000 delegates. Delegates from Missouri Kansas Arkansas and Indian Territory are expected to back a strike. Mitchell and Wilson cite authority from the union constitution in the call.
Large numbers of workers have returned to mines reducing the strike's impact. Some who stayed away are resuming search for work as owners express confidence the stoppage is ending. Coke ovens, dark for ten days, are being lit again and guards remain but in smaller numbers.

James McArdle, 61, of 120 street, suffered the loss of his right thumb and two fingers while using a circular saw at work yesterday on Thayer street. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Washington June 18 Republican Senators wrangled over Cuban reciprocity for nearly three hours at a conference and adjourned without action. The meeting left the fate of either House or Spooner substitute uncertain, with many predicting no reciprocity passage this session.
Venezuelan revolutionists won a victory after five hours of fighting on June 11 at La Vela de Coro capturing a seaport town on the Gulf of Coro. Government forces suffered 27 killed and 120 captured. Coro was besieged under Vice President Ayala. The Cincinnati and Topeka set sail from San Juan for La Gualira, Venezuela.
General Chaffee reports to the Secretary of War that the court martial records for Major I. W. T. Waller of the marine corps were forwarded to Washington aboard the transport Kilpatrick, leaving Manila May 19 and due in San Francisco soon. Secretary Root will suspend action on General Jacob H. Smith’s court martial until review of the Waller testimony, which bears on the Smith case.
News reports state ex captain and manager Jack Doyle was released by New York. O Hagan of Cleveland, who played first base for the Cleveland Americans in the series ending yesterday, is engaged to fill Doyle’s position after being released by New York earlier in the season without trial.

Boston authorities arrested three men tied to wool and woollen rag smuggling from Canada. Frederick Barlow wool broker Reuben Broomfield Stoughton mills treasurer and John O Connor junk dealer face indictments with two others sought. Bail set at 10000 each. case may go to Vermont for trial.
In Central Falls Rhode Island on June 18 a first post nightfall run was halted by hostile mobs. A Dexter street crowd attacked an outgoing car injuring a motorman while stones flew at other lines. Police could not control the crowd as cars continued and were brought under control after a furious chase.

A large Readville crowd saw the finish of the special slow class for a $100 purse. By sunset June 17 Cartuna owned by J. Henderson won the first heat ahead of Dexter and C. L. Hinds’ C. L. H. Estabrook and CG. L. H. trailed. The dead heat between Cartuna and Dexter in the fourth heat left Cartuna ahead, Dexter second, and C. L. H. behind. In the fifth Cartuna beat Dexter to seal the win.
