A Boston Post account describes a mass temperance celebration on June 17 1865 with a 18000-strong parade in Boston and Lowell monuments in Lowell for Luthern Crawford Ladd and Addison Otis Whitney. Gov Andrew delivered an oration in Lowell and a Tremont Temple meeting followed with platform resolutions urging total abstinence and law enforcement to curb intemperance.
