Louis Biot promoter of the Kaufman Langford fight says he will proceed with the event as advertised and seeks an injunction to bar the district attorney and police from interfering. Governor Gillett threatens militia if the fight goes forward and promises a criminal information if held.
Baseball results mixed as rain interrupted action in Boston. In the American League Detroit and Cleveland were among teams affected while New York Brooklyn Chicago and Philadelphia posted various innings totals across the National League.
Weather pauses Harvard facing Brown and postpones all New England league games plus the Boston versus St. Louis double header. Princeton defeats Yale 7 to 5 at New, Red Sox top Detroit in a strong Elmer Collins pitched game.
Republican Sherwin L. Cook of Ward 21 disclosed correspondence with Governor Draper regarding removing the Civil Service Commission over the Hib bard nomination as city collector. He, a former Common Council member and Hibbard campaign manager, says he does not back Mayor Fitzgerald and accuses the Governor of misreading popular sentiment.
Mr. Cook writes that as early as June 2 he urged the Governor to remove the commission due to its actions. The letter frames the request as a response to ongoing concerns about the commission's conduct and effectiveness.
The Boston College garden party, postponed from today due to rain soaked grounds and poor morning sun, will now be held June 25. Organizers expect attendance to rise from 50 000 to 75 000 with a mass meeting for workers at 4 p m today at the campus.
Following the conviction of Big Bill Kelcher and the arrest of Francis J. Wood, multiple trial witnesses are reportedly in panic. Attending are Rear Admiral and Mrs Cowles Jr, the Robinsons, Monroe Robinson, Mrs Vanderbilt, Mrs Gaynor, the Alsops, Theodore Roosevelt Jr, Eleanor and Ethel Roosevelt, Kermit and Archibald Roosevelt, Quentin Roosevelt, Miss Hagner, and Congressman Longworth. Governor Willson named Logan C Murray as his representative. Spanish war veterans from multiple states also listed.
