Captain Wescott Denies Paying for Evidence in Disorderly House Case

Cronan later recanted, claiming his lawyer distorted his words. Judge Hardy ordered Cronan jailed. Wescott explained that undercover work with citizens is sometimes necessary to secure convictions, asserting he instructed Cronan to obtain solicitations and leave. He admitted minimal pay but denied paying to break any law, citing precedent by Warren and Brown and noting the Watch and Ward Society and Dr Parkhurst use similar tactics.
