Battle of Bunker Hill Seen Through Trumbull Portrait
Eye witness John Trumbull, adjutant to Washington, is linked to the famous painting of the battle. The piece sits in Yale as the Trumbull Gallery. The 1775 action near Boston saw 3000 British troops assault Colonel Prescott's redoubt. 1054 British and 450 American casualties. The Americans, short on ammunition, claimed a strategic victory before Howe relieved Gage.
