Two young men, James R. Murphy of Fourth Street South Boston and Joh N Holt of East Newton Street, were ducked from a canoe in the Charles River yesterday. Assistants in a passing canoe rescued them after they were pushed into the water.
Six men in a canoe party were saved after Murphy and Holt toppled into the Charles River while listening to a phonograph concert. Police and park crews aided the rescues as other boats capsized near Norumbega Cove and Norumbega Point. Separate incidents nearby involved sailors from the battleship New Jersey, a skiff accident near Concord Street Bridge, and a man from Auburndale saved near Newton Lower Falls.

Also advertised are firemen and police coats oilskin hats and various bags and suitcases with prices emphasizing value for a Monday event.
Morrison I. Swift spoke at Franklin Union on the Humanist platform arguing that brains will decide future revolutions. He blamed the working and middle classes for overreliance on brute force and asserted the coming victory will go to those with superior intellect.
Mr Swift argues that the working and middle classes squander brain energy through tobacco and alcohol and that educating the masses to restore mental vigor is essential. He links degraded conditions to drink and food adulteration and calls for scientific night schools and pure foods to empower workers to revolt intelligently.
Frank H. Tyrrell and Francis H. Tyrrell of Nashua celebrate their 80th birthday. The twins, long known across New England, receive many telegrams and letters of best wishes. Both men are in good health and expect to mark many more birthdays before Father Time catches up.
Lena Parsons traced 13 year old Ethel Parsons to Boston then Watertown after a threat by Gertrude Parsons runaway sister. Ethel was returned to her parents at 19 Gibbons Street Melrose. Gertrude had run away two years earlier and enticed Ethel away through spite.
Fully 400 Odd Fellows from Mt. Vernon Lodge Harmony Lodge and Purity Rebekah Lodge paid tribute yesterday afternoon in Odd Fellows Hall West Medford to deceased members. The Rev Charles Tilton pastor of Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church delivered the address.
The engagement of Miss Frances Saltonstall of Milton to George von L Meyer Jr of Hamilton was announced by her parents. Frances Saltonstall is a debutante two winters ago and sister to Mrs Weld and Miss Saltonstall. Meyer has just earned a Harvard degree. Frances Sherwood was her mother before marriage. The Saltonstalls' sons are Philip L Saltonstall Jr and Nathaniel Saltonstall.
In Malden Police Officer Thomas W Shaughnessey owns a talking black cocker spaniel named Tige four years old. Tige has taught himself a growing vocabulary answering I dont know and what with remarkable accuracy and can run errands fetch mail and deliver notes. He often visits fans and scientists and is praised for intelligence beyond typical dogs.
Miss Janet Buchanan and Miss Minnie Smith debut as Newport's first policewomen in blue uniforms with brass buttons and black straw hats. They patrol the boardwalk, politely ignore sailors' requests to arrest, and pose for photographers while assigned to beach duty amid public curiosity and local requests for women officers.
Senator Charles Belshaw of San Francisco arrives in town to attend Harvard class exercises at the Touraine. He is viewed as a favored California gubernatorial candidate by the party that backed Governor Johnson. Belshaw says the Japanese question is merely a political matter.
