Dr Thomas H White faced a U S District Court jury in Baltimore and was found guilty of fraudulent use of the mails for running a so called college selling a higher correspondence course in spiritualism magnetism hypnotism and related arts. Sentence was suspended pending a motion for a new trial. The government showed 15 000 spent on advertising over 17 months and weekly gross vows of 1200 to 1500 with a staff of 17 young women handling correspondence and mail orders.

Newport June 15. A number of prominent cottagers and several millionaires were aboard the Newport and Wickford steamer General when its tail shaft broke about a mile west of Conanicut Point. Passengers included Mrs Cornelius Vanderbilt Jr W Ward Sherman and Dr Austin Flint Jr of New York.
Fred Landan described as a doctor of medicine arrived from America three weeks ago. He was arrested on the charge of stealing jewelry and money worth $9000 from a room in the Lengham Hotel London. Police evidence say Landan admitted the theft claiming great need for cash.
